HealthFerm Community
Building a Lasting Community for Fermented Food Innovation
HealthFerm is building a lasting community that extends beyond the project consortium, bringing together researchers, industry representatives, food producers, consumer organisations and other stakeholders with a shared interest in healthier and more sustainable fermented foods. Through the HealthFerm Community, the project creates opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration and dialogue, ensuring that scientific advances are translated into practical solutions and long-term impact.
A cornerstone of this community is the HealthFerm Network, an open platform for anyone interested in plant-based fermentation. Through regular online network meetings, webinars and discussions, participants explore emerging scientific developments, industrial applications and policy challenges related to traditional, biomass and precision fermentation. By encouraging interdisciplinary exchange, the network helps build connections between researchers and stakeholders that will continue beyond the lifetime of the project.
The Stakeholder Board provides strategic guidance and strengthens links with the wider European food innovation ecosystem. It brings together representatives from EU-funded projects, research organisations, public authorities and innovation networks who provide feedback on HealthFerm's progress and contribute expertise through dedicated workshops and consultations. Topics have included consumer behaviour, the European inventory of fermented foods and pathways for innovation, helping ensure that HealthFerm's research remains relevant to societal and industrial needs. Since its launch in 2023, the Board has met regularly and evolved into an active forum for collaboration and cross-sector dialogue.
HealthFerm also actively contributes to the wider FOOD 2030 initiative, Europe's collaborative platform for transforming food systems. Through the FOOD 2030 Project Collaboration Network and its participation in complementary initiatives such as the Microbes4SustainableFoods (M4SF) cluster, HealthFerm shares results, develops joint activities and helps connect research projects working towards healthier, fairer and more sustainable food systems. These collaborations amplify the project's impact, increase the visibility of its results and strengthen Europe's leadership in fermented food research and innovation.
Together, these interconnected communities are creating a durable European ecosystem that will continue advancing fermentation science, sustainable food innovation and stakeholder collaboration long after the HealthFerm project has concluded.
