UEF – University of Eastern Finland
With over 44,000 students, the University of Eastern Finland is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland.
The Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition/Medical School: Our faculty and staff include about 100 professionals, including 13 professors with special interest on health, health promotion and the health care system. We publish approximately 200 international peer-reviewed scientific papers and several PhD theses annually.
Food Research group: widely covers the impacts of food on our health and wellbeing studied in in vitro GI model, in vivo animals, and in short- and long-term clinical interventions. The special focus is on gut and gut microbiota-related health impacts. Our interest is in new and traditional sources of protein and plant-based foods, existing and new probiotics, prebiotics, and other functional foods and ingredients.
Role in Healthferm
The University of Eastern Finland/Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition is responsible for conducting two randomised controlled dietary interventions with fermented foods, either plant-based dairy or meat alternatives. These interventions will investigate and gather a deep understanding of the gut-related mechanisms of action underlying the impact of fermented foods on CMD risk.Team members
