VIB-KU Leuven Center for Microbiology is a global leader in the field of microbiology that combines basic research on microorganisms with translational research and industrial valorisation.

Raes lab combines large-scale sequencing, cohort studies, microbiology and synthetic ecology with computational approaches to investigate the functioning and variability of the human microbiome and study its alteration and modulation in disease.

Role in Healthferm

The Raes lab has a substantial track record in microbiome research and has been pioneering the analysis and integration of meta-omics datasets with environmental, clinical and dietary data, in both large-scale populations and clinical intervention studies. Our work in HealthFerm is focused on work package 3, from ex vivo gut microbiota fermentations to the determination of the gut microbiota in clinical trials.
